Pina Bausch

one of the great leading choreographers in the international modern avant guard dance world. ms. bausch is one of those truly blessed people whose original ideas soar clearly with a divine beauty unmatched. i saw her for the first time a couple years ago in berkeley and the corps danced on thousands of bright pink carnations up on stem, simply covering the entire, very very large stage. she had german shepards and animal handlers as well as dancers both professional and amateur. it was one of the most intelligent and magical evenings of my life. it took me a week to get my jaw to work properly from scraping it up and off the floor each and every move that was made. truly genius and beyond art. i tried to get tickets to see her in paris and the ticket lady all but laughed at me, her nails like tallons, her lips painted hermes pink, soutured to the jawls with bulgari, she cut her eyes, and said, "oh dear...no. oh dear no. it's been sold out for months. eeek!!!! oh well. you live you learn.
